Efficient performance with Gen6 eDrive

At the heart of the iX3 40 is the Gen6 eDrive system, developed for the Neue Klasse platform. The electrically excited synchronous motor, mounted on the rear axle, delivers 320 hp and 500 Nm of torque to the rear wheels. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 124 mph. Rear-wheel drive enhances driving dynamics, maintaining the performance essence of BMW.

Up to 395 miles of range and ultrafast charging

The iX3 40 uses an 82.6 kWh usable battery with cylindrical lithium cells with 20% more energy density than the previous generation. With an 800 V architecture, it supports DC charging up to 300 kW, allowing for adding up to 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes, and a 10–80% charge in ~21 minutes. For AC charging, up to 11 kW is standard, with an optional 22 kW upgrade. There is also bidirectional charging to share energy with external devices or grids.

Neue Klasse design inside and out

The Neue Klasse design appears on the exterior with minimalist surfaces, precise lines, and a grille with a distinct lighting signature. Inside, the cockpit features the BMW Panoramic iDrive with the BMW Operating System X, highlighting driver focus and a fluid digital experience. Standard equipment matches that of the iX3 50 xDrive version, offering a premium package right from the entry-level model.

Intelligent voice control with Alexa+

BMW expands onboard AI capabilities with the Intelligent Personal Assistant, now with Amazon Alexa+ integration. Based on large language model technology, it allows for more natural voice interactions to control functions, access cloud services, manage media, and search for information. The integration also connects Amazon accounts, expanding functionality beyond traditional systems. Availability begins in Germany, with a gradual rollout.

Driving dynamics and software power

The iX3 40 features an electronic and software architecture powered by four high-performance "superbrains," offering more than 20 times the processing power compared to previous systems. The highlight is the Heart of Joy coupled with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software, which reacts up to ten times faster, increasing agility, stability, and precision. BMW also introduces the Soft Stop function, providing smooth braking until a complete stop, one of the brand's most refined braking experiences.

Price and availability

The iX3 40 arrives in the UK in the summer of 2026, with a starting price of £53,250 (OTR). As the entry-level option of the Neue Klasse line, it offers cutting-edge technology, good range, and premium features for a broader audience.
