Acciona transforma posto de combustível em hub de carregamento EV em Madrid com 20 carregadores ultrarrápidos

Acciona converts gas station into EV charging hub in Madrid with 20 ultra-fast chargers

Acciona takes over operation of public EV hub in Madrid with 20 ultra-fast chargers up to 400 kW, 100% renewable energy, and focus on integrated mobility.

Acciona has won a contract with the Madrid regional government to develop and operate a public electric vehicle charging hub within the M-30 ring road, in the heart of the capital.

The project includes 20 ultra-fast charging points, with power up to 400 kW. Of these, 19 spaces are intended for passenger vehicles and one is dedicated to heavy transport, in addition to a battery swapping station for Silence scooters and motorcycles.

  • 20 ultra-fast points up to 400 kW
  • 19 passenger spaces, 1 heavy transport space
  • Battery swapping station for Silence
  • 1,281 m² area, located at 276 Paseo de la Castellana
  • Operation under a 30-year contract
  • Certified 100% renewable energy
  • Expected annual net surplus greater than 35,000 kWh

The hub will occupy an area of 1,281 square meters at 276 Paseo de la Castellana, opposite the Four Towers business district and within the scope of Madrid Nuevo Norte. The facility will be a decommissioned gas station, converted into an EV hub, bringing together charging infrastructure with public space to support urban regeneration.

Operated by Acciona under a 30-year contract, the hub will offer energy with 100% certified renewable electricity. The site will feature a rooftop solar plant to support on-site consumption and is expected to generate an annual net surplus greater than 35,000 kWh.

Design highlights include a photocatalytic facade to reduce local pollutants and a real-time system to track the renewable origin of the electricity supplied. Conceived as an “integrated mobility hub,” the space will combine charging infrastructure with user services. The project uses low-impact materials, including wood, photocatalytic ceramics, and local stone.

In 2025, Acciona acquired Cable Energía, the operator of Shell Recharge in Spain and Portugal outside of Shell stores. The operation added 396 active charging points in high-traffic locations, in addition to a portfolio of 321 chargers under construction or awaiting grid connection. Today, the company already offers access to more than 5,000 charging points in urban networks and interurban corridors in Spain and Portugal.

This move reinforces the company's strategy to expand electric mobility infrastructure in the region, integrating renewable energy, mobility, and urban regeneration.
