Geely Xingyuan leads affordable EV sales in China in 2025, with Wuling close behind; Tesla and BYD lose ground.
Electric vehicle sales in China in 2025 showed that the most affordable models dominated the market, with Geely and Wuling taking the lead.
According to a list of the best-selling EV models on the continent, compiled by a unit of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, Geely sold more than 459,000 units of the Xingyuan in 2025, with a price range between 68,800 and 98,800 yuan. In 2024, there were 52,570 units.
Closely following was the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, another car under 100,000 yuan, with a 55% year-on-year growth to 427,000 units.
The Tesla Model Y ranked third, recording a drop of almost 21% to 382,300 units, even though the manufacturer launched several financing options to boost this model's volumes.
The BYD Seagull, which was second place in 2024, dropped to fourth place in 2025, with 307,000 units, and a price between 69,800 and 85,800 yuan.
Public policies in China are pressuring automakers to avoid discounts amid deflationary pressures, encouraging alternatives such as pricing upgrades at lower tiers and subsidized purchase schemes with payment terms of up to seven years.
