China expands electric vehicle charging network to over 21 million points

China records 21.01 million EV charging points as of Feb/2026, with robust growth and targets to expand the network to 28 million by 2027.

China's electric vehicle charging infrastructure reached 21.01 million points by the end of February 2026, an increase of 47.8 percent compared to the previous year, according to the National Energy Administration.

Among them, public facilities total 4.834 million, up 28.8 percent, while private facilities reach 16.176 million, driven by residential demand.

The data, extracted from the national charging infrastructure monitoring and service platform, illustrates the continued growth of the support network for electric vehicles alongside the momentum of sales.

2025 Overview and 2027 Targets

In 2025, production reached 16.626 million units and sales reached 16.49 million, showing growths of 29 percent and 28.2 percent, respectively, according to CAAM.

In October 2025, China unveiled a three-year action plan to enhance charging infrastructure, with the goal of establishing a national network of 28 million points and public charging capacity exceeding 300 million kilowatts by the end of 2027.

The intense expansion highlights government support for the mass adoption of electric vehicles, as well as the growing demand for residential charging. The goal is to create an integrated network that makes daily EV use more convenient.
