Geely expands its Australian lineup with the EX2 in a public debut and two models still under evaluation at the 2026 Melbourne Motor Show.
Geely signals a significant expansion of its model lineup in Australia by making the 2026 Melbourne Motor Show the stage for new arrivals. The brand confirmed one certain model and two options still under evaluation, totaling five vehicles at the show.
The EX2, an electric hatchback, will make its public debut in Australia during the event, with arrival in showrooms scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. The model is expected to be the brand's most affordable in the country, with an estimated starting price around $30,000 or less, reinforcing the strategy to make EVs more viable on Australian soil.
In addition to the EX2, the stand will feature two models not yet confirmed for the local market, a sedan and an SUV, both being evaluated by Geely for the expansion of its Australian lineup. The automaker stated that the Melbourne Show will be used to gather customer feedback and guide future portfolio decisions.
What could the new companions be?
Geely already exports the Galaxy line to Australia, which offers various options. Sedans under consideration include the Starshine 8, available as a plug-in hybrid; Starshine 7 PHEV; Starshine 6 PHEV; A7 EV and PHEV; as well as the smaller L6.
- In SUVs, possibilities include the M7 PHEV, the larger M9 PHEV, and possibly the Battleship 700, although the latter seems less likely as it was only recently introduced in China.
Geely will keep the electric EX5 and the Starray EM-i in the Australian lineup, models that have received positive reception since local sales began in March 2025, contributing over 6,600 deliveries to date.
Market Context and Next Steps
Geely has been more conservative in Australia compared to some Chinese rivals. GAC, for example, has already announced four models available in just five months. The possibility of up to three new launches in the short to medium term signals a cautious, yet ambitious, expansion strategy.
The Melbourne Motor Show will take place between April 10 and 12 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
