Geely Galaxy Cruiser arrives as a response to the Defender

A novelty coming from China is hitting local roads and international radar: Geely has revealed images of a camouflaged prototype that bears strong traits of a classic off-road vehicle with performance similar to a Defender, although the accentuated similarities end up being purely aesthetic.

The automaker described the project discreetly, reinforcing that the model in question evolves from a previously presented study and may anticipate production. The vehicle, which is being called the Galaxy Cruiser by local press, already appears in official company material, signaling a debut in the Chinese market later this year, with a possibility of arriving in the Old Continent later on.

Unofficial information suggests that the Galaxy Cruiser may use the Geely SEA-R architecture, the same one shared with the Zeekr 9X. In terms of propulsion, the idea is to combine a 2.0 turbo engine with three electric motors, powered by a 70 kWh battery in a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration. The announced range for a full charge is up to 354 km (approximately 220 miles).

Speculations regarding the drivetrain indicate a possible version with all-wheel drive controlled by AI. Furthermore, the concept already drew attention for the flotation capability shown in the study: the prototype was supposedly capable of floating for up to two hours, with a swimming speed of about 5 mph (8 kph). Although these features were part of the study, Geely executives have not confirmed whether they will be integrated into the production version.

In summary, the Galaxy Cruiser should first arrive on the Chinese market later this year, with distribution plans in Europe following. The final design is expected to maintain similarities with the render already released by the brand, suggesting an appearance close to what was shown in official presentations.
