BMW says the iX3 already has more than 50 thousand orders globally, with production in Debrecen and plans for the iX3 40, strengthening the brand's electric momentum.
The BMW iX3 already has more than 50,000 orders globally, six months after reservations began, signaling strong momentum for the brand's next-generation electric SUV.
The confirmation was made by CEO Oliver Zipse during the BMW annual conference. The iX3 debuted at IAA Mobility 2025, in September 2025, when orders started.
Production and capacity
The production of the iX3 will take place at the new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, with an estimated capacity of up to 150,000 vehicles per year when operating at full pace. Since this is a brand new facility, BMW plans to start operations gradually.
Versions and launch strategy
- iX3 50 xDrive: first version, with two motors and all-wheel drive
- iX3 40: planned for the end of the year, aimed at a broader audience, with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive options, smaller battery, and reduced range
Global expansion and timeline
Deliveries have already started in Europe; in the US, the launch will occur this summer. BMW is also working on the NA6, a long-wheelbase model that will complement the global NA5 line, with plans to reach markets such as India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Electrification performance in 2025
- 442,056 BEVs sold, +3.6%
- 17.9% of total operations represented by BEVs
- 642,071 electrified vehicles (PHEVs and BEVs) in 2025
- In Europe, 40% of vehicles were fully electric or plug-in hybrids
- Milestones: June – 1.5 million BEVs; August – 3 million electrified vehicles; later this year, the next milestone will be reaching two million BEVs
With strong initial demand and new models on the way, the iX3 could become a central pillar for BMW's electric growth in the coming years.
