Rivian R2 price leak reveals the start at US$57,990 for the Performance, with Premium planned for 2026 and Standard in 2027. See the details.
Before the official reveal, price and specification details for the Rivian R2 leaked and were quickly taken down. The presentation event is scheduled for SXSW in Austin, and the leak already hints at what to expect in the coming weeks.
R2 Performance: launch price and specs
The R2 Performance is an all-wheel-drive dual-motor SUV, delivering 656 hp and 609 lb-ft of torque. The 87.9 kWh battery allows for up to about 330 miles of range, with fast charging from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes.
Standard trim includes semi-active suspension, 21-inch wheels, a rear window that lowers into the trunk, matrix LED headlights, a nine-speaker sound system, and front seats with heating and ventilation. The interior features birch wood accents.
Optional extras include Autonomy+ (partially automated driving assistant), a tow package with a capacity of up to 4,400 lb, and exterior colors other than the standard silver. The Launch package adds a lifetime subscription to Autonomy+, the tow package, and an optional exterior color.
The vehicle also features 200 TOPS of onboard AI computing power, used for the in-cabin experience and to support the AI assistant expected to arrive via an OTA update, in addition to the Autonomy+ system.
R2 Premium: launch planned for late 2026
The Premium version, priced at US$53,990, maintains the same 330 miles of range and the 87.9 kWh battery, but delivers 450 hp and 537 lb-ft of torque. It mainly differs due to the wheel set (20 inches), non-semi-active suspension, and the removal of some driving modes, while retaining the rest of the features.
The Premium arrives on the market at the end of 2026.
R2 Standard: entry price in 2027
The entry-level version will have a base price of US$45,000 and will feature a smaller battery, offering approximately 265 miles of range. RJ Scaringe's announcement to CNBC indicated that the model will arrive “shortly after” the higher-tier options, consolidating the strategy to reach the entry price point already announced by Rivian during the conceptual presentation.
The R2 measures 185.9 inches in length, 78.1 inches in width, and 66.9 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 115.6 inches.
Leaked Exterior Colors
Just hours earlier, images shared on a Rivian forum showed a list of eight color names for the R2: Catalina Cove, Esker Silver, Half Moon Grey, Borealis, Midnight, Forest Green, Launch Green, and Glacier White. Among these, Glacier White, Midnight, and shades of green were already familiar from the R1. The Borealis shade suggests that the purple color, launched as a limited option, may continue.
Three new colors — Catalina Cove, Esker Silver, and Half Moon Grey — appear to be novelties reserved for the R2.
Why This Matters
Rivian accumulates over US$24 billion in historical losses and states that the R2 is crucial for achieving positive cash flow. The manufacturer expects to deliver between 62,000 and 67,000 units this year, with 20,000 to 25,000 units of the R2 as production matures at the Normal, Illinois factory. The R1 and the commercial vehicle are expected to remain more or less stable.
Now is the time to follow what Rivian will confirm in the official reveal and how the market will react to the announced prices and configuration options.
