Scout Traveler arrives first, Terra comes later: separate launch to capture demand

Scout Motors advances with its electric plans: the Traveler SUV arrives first, followed by the Terra pickup truck in a separate launch window. The strategy aims to capitalize on the already evident demand among future customers.

During an event hosted by the Automotive Press Association, CEO Scott Keogh stated that the majority of reservations are for the Traveler: about 70% to 75% for the SUV, and 25% to 30% for the Terra. This balance reflects Scout's history, historically associated with large SUVs.

Keogh also revealed that 87% of all reservations to date are for the EREV version — a variant with a gasoline engine to recharge the battery — rather than a pure EV.

The Scout website confirms this approach, making it clear that the Traveler arrives first.

Market context

Scout's strategy is the opposite of Rivian's a few years ago, when the automaker started with the R1T. Today, Rivian sells more R1S units, precisely to meet demand. Scout, in turn, prioritizes the Traveler before the Terra, with the Terra arriving later.

Specifications and price perspectives

Traveler and Terra share much of the technical base, including solid axles and front seat options. All-electric models are expected to achieve approximately 350 miles of range, while ICE versions should exceed 500 miles between recharges.

The Traveler is expected to cost approximately $60,000, but the price may fluctuate between now and 2028.
