This move aligns with Uber's push for EVs and autonomous mobility, with agreements covering ride-hail, delivery, and freight. Autonomous electric vehicles require stable, high-speed charging to remain operational, especially given the increasing electrification of human drivers in major cities.

Market Overview

In the US, EV sales cooled down after the federal tax credit ended last year. Nevertheless, the charging network continues to grow: approximately 18,000 new public fast-charging stations were added last year, an increase of about 30% compared to the previous period, according to the Paren platform.

The move indicates that the EV ecosystem is strengthening in anticipation of a demand recovery with more accessible and competitive models. With the expansion of stations, Uber aims to sustain the accelerated growth of its electric and autonomous fleet.

Currently, Uber's autonomous trips are restricted to cities like Austin, Atlanta, and Phoenix, operated in partnership with Waymo. Internationally, Uber has agreements with WeRide to offer autonomous services in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh.
