With rising gas prices, driving an electric vehicle has become even more appealing. Several manufacturers are offering discounts of $10,000 or more on popular models, such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Chevy Equinox EV.

In addition to discounts, some options feature 0% APR financing for up to 72 months, plus additional bonuses for those taking advantage of current conditions.

Edmunds data indicates that interest in electrified vehicles rose 20% in the first week of March, with the focus being mainly on battery electric vehicles.

With generous discounts and low (or 0%) interest financing, many EVs today present a lower total cost of ownership than comparable gasoline vehicles.

  • Hyundai: Up to $10,000 discount on all 2026 IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 models this month. 0% APR financing for up to 72 months, plus an additional $5,000 discount on the 2026 IONIQ 5. The IONIQ 9 gets an extra $3,000 discount with 0% APR for up to 72 months.
  • Hyundai also offers the IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range for lease starting at $259/month for 24 months, with a $3,999 down payment; the Extended Range SE RWD version is $269/month, with a range of up to 314 miles. The IONIQ 9 can be leased for similar amounts.
  • Kia: $10,000 discount across the entire EV lineup, including the EV6 and the three-row EV9.
  • Chevrolet: Equinox EV with a $10,000 customer discount; RS gets $8,750 + $1,250 in conquest cash. LT1 FWD gets a $6,500 discount.
  • Leasing options for the Equinox EV FWD LT with LT1 and convenience package: $259/month for 39 months, with a $4,029 down payment. There is also a financing option with 0% APR + $1,250 purchase bonus if you have a non-GM vehicle from 2012 or newer.
  • Toyota: Up to $7,000 discount and 0% APR on new 2026 bZ, C-HR, and bZ Woodland models.
  • Honda: Prologue with an $8,000 sales credit; leasing starting at $269/month for 36 months.

Furthermore, reference pricing shows that the Hyundai IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range starts at $35,000 (with an estimated range of 245 miles), while the higher-range SE RWD is $37,500 (up to 318 miles). The Chevy Equinox EV FWD LT starts at $34,995 (excluding the $1,395 destination fee) and offers up to 319 miles of range.

Among the highlights, the Equinox EV and the IONIQ 5 were among the best-selling EVs in the US last year: the Equinox ranked third behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, and the IONIQ 5 ranked fifth. With the discounts and the gas price scenario, they become even more attractive.

Which one to choose? The cheapest IONIQ 5 SE Standard Range starts at $35,000, with 245 miles of range; the extended-range version reaches up to 318 miles for a higher price. The Equinox EV FWD LT, starting at $34,995, offers up to 319 miles.

The Equinox EV also features a 17.7-inch infotainment screen, considered best-in-class, surpassing the IONIQ 5's 12.3-inch screen. On the other hand, the IONIQ 5 offers factory wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, a feature missing in the Equinox EV. The Hyundai also offers more interior space, with up to 106.5 cubic feet, compared to 102.2 cubic feet in the Equinox.
