VW plans to launch a sub-4m compact SUV in 2027, based on the Kylaq, with a 1.0 turbo engine and manual/AT transmission, targeting the Nexon and Brezza.
Launch plan and rivals
Volkswagen is intensifying its offensive in the Indian market with an aggressive product strategy, including the refresh of the Taigun and Virtus, as well as the Tayron in a 7-seater version by the end of the year.
A sub-4 meter compact SUV is scheduled to arrive by mid-2027, possibly based on the Skoda Kylaq, with its own VW nomenclature and design changes to reinforce the brand's identity.
Design, technology, and versions
The model should inherit traits from larger VW SUVs, such as the Taigun and Tayron, receiving new plastic parts, front grille, bumpers, and updated headlights. In terms of technology, the following are expected:
- 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 8-inch digital instrument cluster
- Ventilated front seats
- Rear parking sensors and TPMS
- Multiple airbags
The design package should bring shared elements with the larger Kylaqs, including trim options and specifications that reinforce the brand's identity in the segment.
Powertrain and transmission
The future compact VW will feature a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder, turbo engine under the hood, with 114 hp and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Context and expectations
The news also indicates that VW is planning a possible GT Line trim with an all-black treatment for the lineup, in addition to a schedule that includes year-end updates for the Taigun, Virtus, and Tayron, and the arrival of the new sub-4m by mid-2027.
