Polestar announces four new models by 2028: Polestar 5, new variant of the Polestar 4, next generation of the Polestar 2, and Polestar 7.
Polestar launches four-model offensive by 2028
Polestar, the Swedish-Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has confirmed the largest product offensive in its history, with four new models slated for release within three years. By 2028, the brand plans to launch four options, with the first deliveries of the Polestar 5 scheduled for the summer of 2026.
Polestar 5: Electric Gran Turismo with deliveries in 2026
The Polestar 5 is the brand's anticipated Gran Turismo, featuring an elegant coupe silhouette with fastback lines. The Precept concept, presented in 2020, guided the production design. In September 2025, at IAA Mobility, Polestar unveiled the production version and opened pre-orders. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant is already available in Germany starting from 119,900 euros, with the Performance version starting from 142,900 euros. The first units are expected to reach customers in the summer of 2026.
New variant of the Polestar 4: more space, more versatility
Another new addition is a new variant of the Polestar 4, expected to debut later this year. It should not be a simple engine or battery upgrade, but a new body style, possibly a station wagon to expand the customer base. The promotional image shows the Polestar 4 viewed from the rear, hinting at a larger luggage compartment. Polestar states it seeks to combine the space of a station wagon with the versatility of an SUV. Given the uniqueness of the 4, the variant should improve practicality for many buyers. This topic has generated online rumors, but it is something that has not yet been publicly confirmed.
CEO Michael Lohscheller explained that Sweden is famous for its estate cars and that the new version tries to combine the space of an estate with the versatility of an SUV, maintaining Polestar's characteristic performance.
Next generation of the Polestar 2: debut in 2027
Polestar confirms an entirely new successor for the Polestar 2, scheduled to debut in early 2027. Details on technology and platform have not been disclosed, but the Geely PMA2+ is cited as the probable base. The electric Zeekr 7GT may offer clues about the technological path. The front end should maintain the typical lighting signature of the 4/5 line. The President of Polestar stated that the car that helped make the brand known will have an essential role in the future.
Polestar 7: European production and partnership with Volvo
The Polestar 7 is expected to maintain the striking front design, with the characteristic dual headlight set. It has been known since last year that the model will be manufactured in Europe, not China. In July, Polestar signed a letter of intent with Volvo Cars to produce the 7 in Košice, Slovakia. Volvo has yet to confirm which model will be built there, but the 7 should share a common platform with two upcoming Volvo models, including the EX60. As the EX60 is expected to be produced in Gothenburg, the EV60 or the next generation of the EX40 may be the electric partner for the 7, both using the SPA3 platform. As the 7 appears as a compact SUV, the partnership with Volvo seems natural.
For business figures, the company projects conservative expansion for 2026: low double-digit sales growth and a 30% increase in the distribution network. CEO Lohscheller highlights that the model offensive aims to meet the demand for premium EVs and strengthen the retail network to support profitable growth.
