Tesla has launched an entry-level version of the Cybertruck with Dual-Motor AWD, replacing the single-motor RWD model.

The entry price is US$59,990 (approx. A$84,733), about US$10,000 below the model it replaces.

Even so, the value remains above the US$40,000 promised by Elon Musk at its debut in 2019.

Price for a limited time?

There is an indication that this price may only last for 10 days, with Musk suggesting that the future cost would depend on demand.

What changes in the equipment

The new entry-level Cybertruck features all-wheel drive with an additional front motor, four-wheel steering, electric tonneau cover, cloth seats, and heated front seats. The audio system drops from 15 speakers to nine, and the central screen is only 9.4 inches on the more expensive models.

The suspension changes from air to coil springs with adaptive dampers. Towing capacity drops from 4990 kg to 3400 kg.

Range and performance

The addition of the front motor reduces the range to 515 km (compared to 563 km for the RWD). With the extra motor, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 4.1 seconds, compared to 6.5 seconds for the previous model.

Impact on sales

Analysts see the move as an attempt to curb falling demand. In 2025, Tesla sold 20,000 Cybertrucks in the US, less than half of 2024 and short of the 250,000 units/year target announced at its debut.

It remains to be seen whether the entry price, seen as temporary, will be able to reverse the sales trend.
