Nebula Next 01X arrives as the first premium SUV with a solid-state battery in production

Dreame, known for robotic vacuum cleaners, presents the Nebula Next 01X, a premium SUV with a mass-production solid-state battery. The model, unveiled under the Starry Sky Plan, aims to incorporate L4 autonomous driving hardware and high-performance electric motors promising impressive acceleration.

The Nebula Next 01X can be seen as an evolution of the company's DNA, transforming its history in robotics into a cutting-edge automotive platform. The liftback version brings the promise of a premium experience with state-of-the-art technology.

The Starry Sky battery and the promise to usher in a new era

The star of the project is the Starry Sky Crystal Core Power Battery, a 60 Ah solid-state battery noted for an energy density exceeding 450 Wh/kg and a packing efficiency of 85 percent. The cells use a dry electrode process, similar to what Tesla is deploying with the 4680 battery, in addition to a sulfide-based electrolyte.

  • Energy exceeding 450 Wh/kg
  • Pack efficiency 85 percent
  • Fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in 10 minutes
  • Heat resistance up to 300 degrees Celsius
  • Goal by the end of 2027: 2C charge/discharge and up to 800 Wh/kg per cell

The Nebula Next 01X will launch with the first generation of this solid-state battery and will face as-yet-unrevealed rivals, with Toyota cited as an example of a manufacturer betting on solid-state batteries by 2027. Nevertheless, the Nebula Next 01X is presented as a premium car compatible with the current development stage of this technology.

Technology and performance

The model integrates the Starry Sky Tianxun intelligent chassis, with 14 degrees of freedom and non-linear control that synchronizes powertrain and chassis in 1 millisecond. The electromagnetic EMAD suspension promises a 10x faster response and up to 50 percent energy consumption reduction.

In the Ultra Luxury version, acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in just 1.8 seconds occurs in the high-regime Super Track mode. The braking system uses a response time of under 80 milliseconds with 0.1 MPa precision. A 2 nm chipset provides 2000 TOPS of computing power to enable the first SUV under the Starry Sky Plan with L4 hardware across the entire line.

Context and perspectives

Dreame's bet on migrating from the domain of vacuum cleaners to a hypercar drivetrain is presented as plausible by the company, which maintains that control precision, thermal management, and sensor AI have already been mastered through consumer robotics. Time will tell if the success of vacuums like the X60 Max Ultra, with 35,000 Pa of suction, will translate into a premium electric SUV with the new solid-state battery.
