BMW iX3 40, the entry-level Neue Klasse model, featuring up to 395 miles of range, charging up to 300 kW, and a starting price of £53,250 in the UK.
Performance and Gen6 eDrive technology
BMW has expanded its next-generation electric lineup with the iX3 40, a new rear-wheel-drive variant of the Neue Klasse family. The model arrives as an entry-level option alongside the iX3 50 xDrive, combining cutting-edge technology, performance, and competitive pricing for the summer of 2026 in the UK.
The iX3 40 starts at £53,250 (OTR), maintaining a focus on accessibility without sacrificing capability.
Performance and Gen6 eDrive technology
At the heart of the iX3 40 is BMW's Gen6 eDrive system, developed for the Neue Klasse platform. The setup features an electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) mounted on the rear axle, with 320 hp and 500 Nm of torque at the rear wheels.
Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 124 mph reinforce the focus on dynamic rear-wheel-drive handling.
Range of up to 395 miles and ultra-fast charging
The iX3 40 utilizes an 82.6 kWh usable battery, with cylindrical lithium cells featuring 20% higher energy density compared to the previous generation.
With an 800V architecture, the vehicle supports DC charging of up to 300 kW, allowing it to add up to 186 miles in 10 minutes, and complete a 10–80% charge in approximately 21 minutes.
For home or public charging, the iX3 40 offers up to 11 kW as standard, with an optional upgrade to 22 kW. The new model includes bidirectional charging, enabling energy sharing between the vehicle and external devices or the grid.
Neue Klasse design and interior
The iX3 40 adopts the clean look of the Neue Klasse, with minimalist surfaces, precise lines, and a redesigned kidney grille with a distinct lighting signature.
Inside, the cabin is defined by the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, powered by the BMW Operating System X. The layout prioritizes the driver, offering a highly intuitive digital experience.
Standard equipment matches the level of the iX3 50 xDrive, ensuring a premium package even in the entry-level version.
Connectivity and onboard AI
BMW reinforces its AI capabilities with the Intelligent Personal Assistant, now with Amazon Alexa+ integration. Based on large language models, the system allows for more natural voice interactions, function control, access to cloud services, media management, and quick queries via voice command. Integration also connects Amazon accounts to expand functionality, with availability being rolled out gradually starting in Germany.
The iX3 40 introduces a new electronic and software architecture powered by four superbrains, offering more than 20 times the processing power of previous systems. A highlight is the Heart of Joy control module, in conjunction with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software, which reacts up to 10x faster and increases agility, stability, and driving precision. BMW also introduces the Soft Stop function, providing smooth braking down to a complete stop.
