New heavyweight duo for 2027: Forester Wilderness Hybrid and Getaway EV

In New York, Subaru unveiled two novelties for its 2027 lineup: the more efficient Forester Wilderness Hybrid and the Getaway EV, a high-performance electric SUV. The focus is to maintain the off-road DNA while expanding efficiency and electric performance.

Forester Wilderness Hybrid: balance between ruggedness and economy

The Forester Wilderness Hybrid combines a 2.5-liter boxer engine with Atkinson/Miller cycles, a high-capacity battery, and electric motors, resulting in 194 hp. Compared to the previous model, fuel efficiency has increased by about 25%, maintaining the ruggedness for trails with the comfort of daily use.

With 9.3 inches of ground clearance, the crossover preserves its off-road capability. The transmission is a Lineartronic CVT, integrated with the Symmetrical AWD system, and the package includes X-MODE with settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud, making driving on challenging terrain more predictable.

Getaway EV: the 420 hp electric SUV that promises to accelerate the family

The Getaway is Subaru's second electric bet and the most powerful vehicle ever produced by the brand, with 420 hp coming from two electric motors. Accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, it raises the performance bar in Subaru's repertoire.

The range is over 300 miles with a 95.8 kWh battery, using the NACS connector. Fast charging reaches 150 kW, taking approximately 30 minutes to go from 10% to 80% charge.

Early next year, Subaru will preview a version with a 77 kWh battery, with a shorter range and possibly a more attractive price. The Getaway accommodates up to seven occupants thanks to the three-row layout, with cargo space that varies depending on seat position: 45.6 cubic feet with the third row folded and 15.9 cubic feet with the third row in use.

Inside, the family will find features like cup holders in all rows, three-zone climate control, dedicated vents for the third row, ambient lighting, USB-C ports in all rows, and an available panoramic sunroof.

About range and market arrival

For the Forester Wilderness Hybrid, the hybrid system integrates with the CVT transmission and Symmetrical AWD, maintaining the 9.3-inch ground clearance to tackle challenging terrain without sacrificing urban comfort.

Subaru has not released pricing or exact arrival dates for the two models, only the expectation of a launch for late 2026.
