Z9 GT: electric luxury with up to 1,036 km CLTC, 102/122 kWh batteries, and fast charging; possible entry into Australia.
Denza Z9 GT promises over 1,000 km of range and cutting-edge technology
BYD, through its premium brand Denza, unveiled the Z9 GT, a luxury electric grand tourer that claims to surpass the 1,000-kilometer range mark.
The model can travel up to 1,036 km on the CLTC cycle, placing it among EVs with the longest announced ranges.
Battery and range options
There are two battery options:
- 102 kWh — up to 820 km CLTC (approx. 683 km WLTP)
- 122 kWh — up to 1,036 km CLTC (approx. 863 km WLTP)
China uses the CLTC cycle, which tends to show higher figures than WLTP or EPA. Under WLTP conditions, the real range could be between 700 and 800 km, according to analysts.
Performance and versions
- Single rear motor: 370 kW
- Tri-motor AWD: 850 kW combined power
Even with the tri-motor setup, the CLTC range is around 1,002 km.
Technology and design
- Lidar on the roof integrated into the driver assistance system, called God’s Eye
- Aerodynamic wheels to reduce cabin noise
- Shooting-brake type car, prioritizing comfort on long journeys
Among the innovations is also high-performance charging: Denza claims compatibility with charging infrastructure up to 1,500 kW, with 10% to 97% battery in about nine minutes under ideal conditions.
Australia and the global future
So far, the Z9 GT has been revealed for China, but Denza is already signaling plans for global expansion, including Australia. The brand, born from a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, already has the D9 approved for local sale, suggesting interest in the Australian market.
If it arrives in Australia, the Z9 GT may target premium EV buyers who currently follow models like the Model S, Taycan, or EQE.
Impact on the EV market
The presentation of the Z9 GT shows how EV technology is evolving rapidly, with tense ranges and increasingly fast charging. This evolution can reduce range anxiety and optimize charging stops on long journeys. With BYD present in the Australian market through other models, Denza may expand the premium offering in the country.
Leave your comment: would you consider a car with this level of range for long trips, or would you prioritize other attributes?
