MG confirms the arrival of semi-solid batteries in Europe by 2026, with the MG4 offering greater range and fast charging.
After presenting the first electric vehicle with semi-solid batteries in mass production, MG confirmed that it will bring this technology to Europe by the end of 2026.
MG SolidCore Battery is the name of the new generation, which promises greater range, faster charging, greater safety, and improved cold-weather performance, with the solid electrolyte forming a protective layer inside each cell.
MG4: the rolling laboratory
In China, the MG4 equipped with the 53.95 kWh semi-solid battery (manganese-ion lithium) has a CLTC range of 530 km and starts at 102,800 yuan (approx. US$ 14,500).
In Europe, the same setup is expected to appear with a WLTP range estimate of around 400 km (approx. 248 miles).
Price and benchmarks
MG has not yet released the official price in Europe, but it is expected that the MG4 with the new battery will have a starting price close to £23,495 (around US$ 31,300).
For comparison, the already available MG4 Urban EV uses a 53.9 kWh LFP battery and delivers up to 258 miles of WLTP range.
Where else will we see this differentiator
MG said that semi-solid batteries should debut in other models, such as the MG 4X, with the industry closely watching how solid-state technology evolves in prototypes from various manufacturers.
This move signals a strong bet on battery evolution for the European market.
