Overview

The 2027 Range Rover Velar is already starting to spark curiosity even before its official unveiling. In winter testing, the model no longer presents itself with the typical SUV silhouette; it actually suggests a tall sedan. Realistic renderings released show this new line without camouflage, highlighting a different interpretation for the Velar.

Design shown in realistic renders

According to the computer-generated images, the front end appears wider and lower, with a wider and shorter front grille, and thinner headlights extending towards the sides. The roofline remains arched, but the body features shorter side doors and windows. The rear gets a bulky tailgate, thin and wide taillights separated by the Range Rover badge, a robust roof spoiler, and a new bumper with a diffuser, in addition to a differently positioned license plate holder.

Overall, the ground clearance is lower, the wheels are larger, and the finish features a red tone with a black roof and upper section, as well as black trim on the lower part of the body.

Architecture, engine, and debut

According to rumors, the 2027 Velar will be produced exclusively as a debut electric vehicle, competing with models like the Porsche Macan Electric. The cited base is the new Electrified Modular Architecture (E-MMA), which is expected to debut in this model. Furthermore, this architecture would be the cornerstone for the future smaller version of the Land Rover Defender, which further fuels the anticipation around the brand's electric portfolio.

Current status and launch expectation

No details about the powertrain, batteries, performance, or range have been released. Spy photographers have not managed to capture images of the cockpit during the prototype's passes, leaving much information open. Nevertheless, the launch is pointed to as probable in the coming months, with production starting in early 2027 at the Halewood plant (JLR).

Conclusion

With few official details, the 2027 Velar is poised to redefine what we expect from a Range Rover in terms of design, combining the elegance of a sedan with the brand's typical electric luxury DNA.
